Evolis Drivers Compatibility Update and Ribbon FAQ

Evolis drivers are now fully compatible with Win 11! There are also Evolis card printer drivers for Mac OS 12 and Linux. With this full driver/printer compatibility chart, you can learn more about which OS printers like the Evolis primacy, are compatible with at a glance.

Printout quality is not as good as usual for Evolis card printer:

• Pay attention to use Evolis High Trust Genuine Evolis ribbon when printing ID badges – Check how to recognize an Evolis High Trust ribbon
• Update firmware version to at least 1955 – Check how to update both firmware and driver in one operation

In case printouts are less than the quantity mentioned on the ribbon:

• Pay attention to use Evolis High Trust Genuine Evolis ribbon custom ID cards- Check how to recognize an Evolis High Trust ribbon
• Update firmware version to at least 1955 – Check how to update both driver and firmware in one operation
• Using firmware version 1957 or above and printing and monochrome ribbon (for instance with WHITE or BLACK ribbons), please contact your Evolis official reseller. 

The following message may be displayed in case of use of ribbons from a specific batch:

• “no ribbon”
• “ribbon not identified”
• “ribbon not valid”  

• Pay attention to use Evolis High Trust Genuine Evolis ribbon when printing employee ID cards.
• Update firmware version to at least 1955 – Check how to update both driver and firmware in one operation

Ribbon capacity is not displayed:

• This may be related to a specific batch of ribbons (part number ending with ‘//’, see example below in lower half with red arrow). This has no impact on the printout’s quality:

A “ribbon problem” message is displayed:

• Make sure you have manually selected your ribbon in the drivers’ settings in case of use of a ribbon with a ‘//’ reference.
• The ribbon ends and a “mechanical error” message is displayed instead of “ribbon end”.
• This may be related to specific ribbon batches with a ‘//’ reference.

In case a mechanical error occurs when inserting a new monochrome ribbon for Evolis card printer:

• Update printer firmware version to at least 1957 

My LCD printer beeps every minute when using a specific ribbon batch (identified with a // symbol at the end of the P/N reference)

• Update LCD firmware version to at least 1955
